Photo Essay – Essence of a Valley

The Essence of a Valley

The images contained in this portfolio where all captured in the spring of 2012 from a neighborhood of Syracuse known as “The Valley”.  After researching this area, it became apparent that this catchment’s most valuable assets can be found in its natural elements.  Walking through the green spaces and along the city streets, you can understand why the Onondaga Indian Nation once felt a spiritual connection to this area and why this land attracted the first permanent white settlers in Onondaga County.

The portraits in this portfolio were inspired by how nature has been preserved and incorporated into the urban landscape.  On a larger scale, it represents illustrates the importance of urban revitalization and how communities can benefit from the symbiotic elements found in a simple valley.
