Notes for Roderick McDougal Brown:

I’ve had the opportunity to share much with Rod over the years.  Having known him for over twenty years, living together on multiple occasions, I have memories of long and varied conversations ranging from family to cooking tips and from politics to fishing.  He was one of the most interesting and intelligent people I’ve been privileged to know.  Obviously, there is more to say than could be written on this page, but I’ve listed a few blog entries (below) that remember him and, in his words, talks about his childhood in some detail.

Rod spoke very little about his short time in the service.  He was inducted into active service on January 23, 1951 (Military Service #US 51 053 111)where he departed from Syracuse, New York to Fort Dix New Jersey. He received an honorable discharge (convenience of the Government) on April 18, 1951 due to a “disability existing prior to entry on active service and not aggrevated by military service”. While serving, he was a member of the 47th Infantry Regiment, Company B.  Upon his death, Rod’s rifle was given to his grandson, Justin Brown.

Rod, who had been suffering from OCPD for many years, was hospitalized at St. Joseph’s on Thursday, June 3rd. After several attempts to regulate his heart rate and breathing, he finally passed peacefully on Sunday, June 13th. He had an opportunity to speak with his daughters prior to passing and Heather and Shannon were by his side when he passed. Rod’s remains were divided into six urns going to his five children (Debbie, Brian, Heather, Shannon and Erin) with the sixth urn going to the eldest grandson (Justin Brown) of his deceased daughter, Lynette (Brown) David.
